How to get to Santorini

First, please make sure you have a passport as it is required to enter/exit Greece. From America, the most common route to Santorini involves flying to Athens and then taking a connecting flight or ferry to Santorini. There are direct flights available from some U.S. cities to Athens, but most flights will require a layover or two. Once in Athens, there are frequent flights or ferry services to Santorini. The flight from Athens to Santorini is 50 minutes and the ferry ride is 5 hours.

By Air

There is an international airport on Santorini but these flights are less frequent than flights to Athens which is the capital and main transport hub in Greece. There are regular and inexpensive flights from Athens to Santorini. I suggest flying from the United States to Athens, and then taking a FLIGHT (50 minute) or FERRY (5 hour) to Santorini from Athens.

Ferry Services

There are also regular ferry services from Athens and the neighboring islands (the Cyclades). If you were planning on making more of a vacation out of our wedding, then you might want to consider combining Santorini with another Greek Island (like Milos, Crete, Mykonos, Rhodes, etc.). Of this group of islands, the only international airports are on Mykonos, Crete and Santorini. The best plan would be to take the ferry/flight back to Athens, and then fly home to the United States. Visit ferryhopper.com or seajets.com to book your ferry tickets in advance, and to find all ferry schedules including direct & indirect connections between islands.

So, you've made it to Santorini (by air or by ferry).. now what? --> Once you arrive in Santorini, you will need to take a car service to your hotel. Please book this in advance for a smooth trip.

Ubers and taxis are available on the island (taxis can be organised by hotels/restaurants). Depending where you are staying (and what plans you have) we would recommend renting a car. This can often be organized through your accommodation (we usually pay EUR40-60 a day). Some links below that may be helpful (Vazeos, can meet you at Arrivals).
